Mayfield Park, Manchester Right in the middle of Manchester, Mayfield Park is one of those places you might not expect to find in the city centre. 6.5 acres of green space, a huge adventure playground, riverside walks and plenty of room for little legs to explore. The children’s Play Yard is the big draw for families, with six slides built into the landscape, climbing and play features and plenty to keep children busy. Rather than feeling like a traditional fenced-in playground, it’s woven into the park alongside the River Medlock, which runs right through the middle. With 142 trees and around 120,000 plants and shrubs, it feels surprisingly green considering you’re moments away from the buzz of Manchester city centre. It’s a really easy one to add onto a day in Manchester. Bring a picnic and spend a couple of hours here, use it as somewhere for the kids to burn off some energy between other plans, or make the park the destination itself on a sunny day.
