We knew our stay at West Midlands Safari Park Lodges was going to be memorable, but nothing quite prepares you for hearing lions roar as your morning alarm clock. First, let’s address the elephant in the room: a Safari Lodge stay isn’t cheap. But is it worth it? We genuinely think it is. This is much more than one night’s accommodation. You get two days at the park, meals, seasonal ride wristbands and some brilliant exclusive experiences that make the stay feel much more special than simply booking a room beside the animals. Day one On your first day, you can spend the day exploring the four-mile Safari Drive, Safari Walk and Adventure Theme Park before checking into your lodge later on. One thing that makes the whole experience feel really easy with children is the luggage service. When it’s time to check in, the team delivers your bags directly to your lodge, so there’s no need to carry everything around the park. Dinner is already waiting inside your lodge, prepared and served in glass jars. You simply heat it when you’re ready, then the jars are collected afterwards. And yes, it sounds simple, but the food was genuinely delicious. The chocolate brownie was a particular favourite. One of the biggest surprises came after the park closed to ordinary day visitors at 7pm. As lodge guests, we could continue exploring with only the other overnight guests around. There were moments when it genuinely felt like we had parts of the park completely to ourselves. Then there was the lodge itself. We stayed in a White Lion Safari Lodge , and being able to sit by the window watching the lionesses outside was one of those experiences that doesn’t really feel real until you’re there. We’ll be honest, we barely slept because we were too excited. We kept getting out of bed to see what the lions were doing. Day two Our morning alarm was the sound of lions roaring outside, which is definitely not something we’ll be forgetting anytime soon. After breakfast, we packed our bags and simply left them inside the lodge for the team to collect. Our luggage was then waiting for us at reception when we were ready to leave later that day. After checking out, lodge guests attended an exclusive sea lion show at 10.15am . We then used the rest of the day to explore the areas we hadn’t managed the day before. Having two days at the park makes a huge difference with children because you don’t feel like you need to race between the safari, animals, rides and play areas. At the end of the day, we used our Safari Pass to experience the Safari Drive again before heading home.
